Structures "space centered"
The key to a well made building is that there is a balance with the negative space and the space being occupied. Simple, material and empty space. Space can be manipulated and crafted, catered to the need of the people that reside in it. This is obviously done by planning and distribution of the structure. Some examples of well known structures that use the space to its fullest potential are the Stone Thermal baths, and the Pompidou center.
The stone thermal baths, in addition to the texture and the baths themselves, uses space within it to its advantage. What i mean by this is that in the core of its design, it was made to be an “open” area. The structure was built with these separation in the ceiling, leaving space for natural light, in addition to artificial ones at night. The baths also are scattered and placed in different sections, so there is a bunch of area to walk on and to explore through. An open enclosed area for guests and residents to enjoy and be comfortable in.
Now to the Pompidou Center, the accidental monument. This Building was made with space as one of the most important principles included. All of its pipes and supports are all on one side. This leaves an insane amount of open space for anything. For a pop up library, for offices, for art installations, anything. It was made with human interaction and socialization in mind, no unnecessary walls or limits, the only exception being the walls for the restrooms.
As seen in the previous examples, space is an essential part of a building. It's what obviously separates it as a habitable building and a block. Space is what makes us comfortable, an atmosphere here we could do or decorate as we please. And logically, we want to be in spaces we feel comfortable in.
